There is couple of tutorials on youtube but I'd like to introduce you my tutorial. And as you can see later, it's very simple!
STEP 1: Divide your hair into two large sections, parting straight down the middle. For a sharper look, you can use a comb to part your hair evenly. If you'd prefer the tousled Katniss Everdeen (from The Hunger Games) look, simply part it with your hands.
STEP 2: Pull a thin strand of hair from the outside of the left section. Pull it over to the inside of the right section.
- if you want a tight braid, take even strands from each side. If you want a more messy look, take uneven strands. Either way it will look good.
- For a more intricate braid, use skinnier strands. It takes more effort, but it looks gorgeous. Using skinnier strands is very lovely.
- For a beginner, pulling it tighter helps you to learn the method properly.
STEP 3: Repeat on the right side. Take a strand from the right side and pull it over to the left.
STEP 4: Keep alternating sides until you reach the bottom of the braid. That is, for the traditional look. You could always tie off half way through to mix it up a bit!
STEP 5: Tie off the end with a hair bobble or elastic. Add a cute ribbon, barrette or charm to give it some personality if you'd like!
- If you feel that the fishtail is too tight, use your fingers to gently massage into the strands a little to loosen it slightly.
- If your hair is really long, more can be done at this stage, such as tucking the hair into a bun, weaving it around your head or across the front, etc. If you have slightly shorter hair, just fishtail it as far as you want.
See? It's very simple! And even it takes some time to finish the braid, I'm sure you will be happy!
Fishtail braid is excellent hairstyle for every occasion! There is a lot of combinations of the braid, so you can just experiment a bit!
